The thar is the best-selling car in india despite of 3-door variant. Now Maruti Suzuki jimny is the latest entrant in the space and challenges the current champ. Maruti Jimny poses a signifucant challenge to the Mahindra Thar as both vehicles are rugged-off roaders. However, key factor that buyer attracted to jimny because avaibility of 5-door version, which enhances practicality.Here are the detail comparision between the two vehicles.

Engine and transmission :

The mahindra thar provide three engine options : 1.5litre diesel engine makes 113bhp and 300Nm of torque , paired with 6-speed MT driving the rear wheels. 2.2 litre diesel engine produces 128bhp poer and 300Nm of torque and 2.0litre turbo-petrol engine makes 148bhp power and 320Nm of peak torque.Both engines paired with 6-speed MT and AMT equipped with four-wheel drive systems.

on other hand , Maruti Jimny comes with 1.5litre K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine churns out 103bhp power and 134Nm of peak torque.Customers have two transmission options available 5-speed manual gearbox or 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.the jimny comes with suzuki's allGrip pro 4*4 system as a standard features.

Exterior : 

Maruti jimny is exclusively available in a 5-door configurations, making it more practical than Mahindra Thar.Mahindra offers hard-top or soft-top options.Thar measures 3985mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,850 mm in height. In comparison, the Jimny has the same length of 3,985 mm but is narrower at 1,645 mm and has a height of 1,720 mm.Mahindra Thar has more space and height compare to jimny.Maruti Suzuki jimny has longer wheelbase of 2590mm which 145mm more than the Thar.But mahindra thar has higher ground clearance of 226mm.

The base model of Maruti Suzuki Jimny is priced at ₹12.74 lakh and its top variant (Alpha AT dual tone) costs ₹15,05,000. The Thar starts at ₹10.55 lakh for the rear-wheel drive variant and four-wheel drive variants start at ₹13.87 lakh and go up to ₹16.78 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom.
