In September, Maruti Suzuki India achieved its highest-ever sales, marking a 3% increase in passenger car sales compared to the previous year. This article explores the remarkable growth, focusing on the surge in SUV sales and the challenges faced by the compact segment.
Maruti Suzuki India, the nation's leading automaker, achieved a significant milestone in September. They sold over 1.81 lakh passenger cars, reflecting a 3% increase compared to the same month last year. This remarkable feat followed their prior highest sales month in August of the same year.
The highlight of Maruti Suzuki's September sales report was the astonishing 80% growth in SUV sales. The popularity of models such as Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Fronx played a pivotal role in this achievement. Maruti Suzuki now dominates the Indian SUV market.
Out of the 1,81,343 units shipped in September, more than 1.50 lakh vehicles were sold within India, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki India accomplished a remarkable feat by selling over 10 lakh vehicles nationwide between April and September, reaching this milestone within just six months of the fiscal year.
Maruti Suzuki's success extends to the utility vehicle market, where they outperformed Mahindra & Mahindra, selling 59,271 units. The diverse range of SUVs and MPVs offered by Maruti Suzuki has contributed significantly to this success. While newer models like Fronx and Jimny are gaining popularity, Brezza and Grand Vitara remain the top choices in their respective SUV classes. Grand Vitara, in particular, reached the impressive milestone of one lakh sales within a year of its launch.
Despite the overall success, the small and compact segment faced challenges in September. Entry-level vehicles like Alto and S-Presso experienced reduced demand, with only 10,351 units sold, reflecting a 65% decrease compared to the previous year. Compact car sales also dipped from 72,176 units in September of the previous year to 68,552 units last month.
In addition to their record-breaking domestic sales, Maruti Suzuki reported increased exports in September. The automaker exported 22,511 units, marking a slight increase from 21,403 units during the same period the previous year.
Conclusion:
September was indeed a historic month for Maruti Suzuki India, with record-breaking sales driven by the soaring demand for SUVs and remarkable milestones achieved by popular models. While challenges persisted in the compact segment, the automaker's overall performance remains impressive, solidifying its position as a leader in the Indian automotive industry.
